Welcome to Modern Educator

Here on this blog I hope to get a conversation going amongst students, teachers, administrators, and parents about who, what, when, why, and where we should teach technology skills for the 21st century. I am technology teacher at Truckee High School in Truckee, CA and currently teach classes like digital media, e-learning, applications, and keyboarding -- yes...still important! :) Please Join the Conversation!

  8. I think all students should be taught technology in the 21st century because we live in a digital world. Many, if not all, jobs currently use computers and technology, and students should be taught the necessary skills. Also, many of the tools the internet and other programs have to offer us can be very useful. I use technology everyday and feel that all students need to be taught how to use it too.

  9. As a student, I think you could use a blog to share your work, or thoughts on school material, or school sports, activities, clubs, etc. As for your future, knowing how to blog may help you because you'd have tools to keep people updated in a business, or if you want to try to sell a product or opinion.

  10. I agree with Shannon I also feel that learning how to use advanced technology in our world today is something that everybody should do. In the world we live in, people who know how to use technology usually have a step up over people who don't. So many jobs use technology and if you don't know how to use it, you become limited in a world that is basically revolved around technology.

  11. A blog can be very helpful in getting certain business/educational words out to people, but it can also be way to let loose and post a story or whatever. It can be an escape, or it can be produced only for business. It can help get your word out to people, or it can help sell a product. So, I think a blog is a good thing for people to have, only if they want. -Dorothy Siino.

  17. I agree with almost everything he said.He stated that our economy is on the mend and that for the first time in two decades Osman Bin Laden ins't a threat to us, and first time in awhile a that our troops aren't fighting in Iraq. He also said that our country is now offering jobs for the first time since the 1990's. Another statement was that he is willing to work with anyone in that room to help this country, and as long as he is President we will not go back to "an economy weakened by out resourcing, bad debt, and phony financial profits " I disagreed with I'm on this because the whole time hes been President the prices have gone up and nothing he said he would do about the economy. However what he says about our education is interesting because he believes that we should reward our teachers for teaching great things to our students. He also is trying to stop laying off teachers and only keep the best ones. For colleges he wishes to lower the costs to bring more opportunity to more students. -Katherine

  19. I agree with what he said about education in America. He explained that with our economy today, we've had to lay off thousands of teachers. And I agree that laying off thousands of good teachers is really unfortunate because without them, Americans wouldn't have the education that we do today. Good teachers make a difference and therefore they shouldn't be getting laid off. However, when he suggested that every student be required to finish high school, I didn't agree with that because, yeah it's true that they would work harder knowing that they HAD to graduate, but for some of them, being forced to graduate might make them want to drop out even more. I don't think that would be an effective way to get more kids to finish high school. Another problem for kids in America is the high cost of a good education. The amount of money it costs to go to college, isn't available to all people. To solve this, some colleges are condensing the courses in order for students to finish earlier, and not having to pay so much. Another problem is the fact that some of our students, aren't legal Americans. They come to American to study all sorts of things, they get their degree, then they are sent back to their country.

  20. I love Obama because I believe he has reformed this country for the better. I agree with everything he said because he is a very wise leader. He said that our economy is on the way back up, and that for the first time in two decades we are not a threat to Al Quada in, and first time in many years our troops aren't fighting in Iraq. He also said that our country is now offering more jobs for the first time since the 1990's. Another statement was that he is willing to accept any reasonal bill with anyone in that room to help this country, and as long as he is President we will not go back to an economy weakened by bad debt, and phony financial profits. However what he says about our education is motivational because he believes that we should reward our teachers for teaching great things to our students. He also is trying to stop laying off teachers and only keep the best ones. For colleges he wishes to lower the costs to bring more opportunity to more students. He really makes the future look like a utopia.

  21. I think that his speech was interesting. The education part was reasonably true, i think the better teachers should have better rewards and the teachers that are not as good at teaching should either be laid off or just have less of a reward. I think it is dumb that collage tuition's are too high to pay just for a good education. There are some people that cannot afford to go to collage but want to get a good job so they need a good education. I think the education in the U.S needs to change a lot to help the children.
